In 1857, Brother Emmanuel, an eminent herbalist and member of the Community of Marist Brothers at the Hermitage Monastery, developed the final formula for l’Arquebuse de l’Hermitage.

This marvellous product is produced by the maceration and distillation of 33 plants with multiple properties.
The quality of this Arquebuse earned its wide renown.
Any good housewife, concerned about the well being of her family, used to have a bottle of this stored away.
Over time this success led to numerous counterfeits.

The Hermitage Distillery also developed other products with plant bases : Genalpy, Eau de Noix, Werder...
